Sports Interactive has been honoured for its commitment to helping to combat climate change with the Environment Award at the 2022 GamesIndustry.biz Best Places To Work Awards.

The Environment Award is one of GamesIndustry.biz’s Special Awards, which celebrate companies who have done excellent work in specific areas. More than 90 companies were considered for the awards this year, with Sports Interactive becoming the second recipient of the award after ustwo games picked up the inaugural prize in 2021.

Sports Interactive Studio Director Miles Jacobson said: “I’m very proud that Sports Interactive’s efforts have been recognised with the Environment Award at this year’s GamesIndustry.biz studio awards.

“Climate change is already affecting everyone the world over and it’s only going to become more of an issue as the years progress. We’ve been aware for a while that we’re part of the problem. Not just us but the whole entertainment industry is part of that problem because of the amount of plastic used in packaging.

“We started work on trying to reduce our impact in 2019, ditching plastic boxes and instead selling Football Manager 2020 in reinforced, 100% recycled gatefold cardboard sleeves. We’ve since removed the need for a disc when you buy a physical copy of the game.

“Well done to everyone at the studio as well as our colleagues at SEGA Europe, who worked so hard on our eco-packaging solution and don’t get the credit they should.”
